The MTYC was founded in 1956, at Richmond upon Thames, moving to Sunbury on Thames in 1960. The objectives of the Club are to promote and encourage motor boating and yachting generally, on the non-tidal and tidal Thames, and to engage in inter-club boating and social activities. The year 2006 marked the Club's 50th anniversary and there were several special celebrations to mark the occasion.

The Club has an attractive location on Sunbury Lock Island with the clubhouse and moorings facing the Sunbury side of the river. Access to the club is possible by club ferry from Sunbury or by using the club car park and a short walk on the Walton side.

MTYC clubhouse

The MTYC is justly proud of the reputation it has built up over the years and, in particular, that of being a friendly family Club, whose members gain maximum enjoyment from the facilities offered and the effective organisation of boating and social activities. In addition to boating and social activities, members have traditionally participated in the work necessary for the maintenance and improvement of the Club. Most importantly, it has been found that this contributes to the comradeship and sense of involvement of members. Today our club house and site is the envy of many along the length of the river. It is expected that these traditions will continue, helping to maintain the unique nature of MTYC and its progress and development in the future.
