Middle Thames started off at Richmond in 1956, most members had sailing dinghies and the idea of motor cruising was still seen as the preserve of the comfortably off. War surplus motors and lifeboats were available and slowly members acquired powered boats. We welcome any form of boating and the club still has members with sailing boats although regular dinghy racing no longer takes place. Regular club cruises are organised both upriver and down, tidal and non-tidal to suit all tastes and capabilities. Club cruises are the heart of the social and boating activities of the club and no member is allowed to fly the distinctive Seagull burgee until they have attended a club cruise.

A selection of boats belonging to club members. Photographs are anywhere on the river so no location has been specified.

This gallery will change constantly over time. There are many more member’s boats than are featured here, this is just those for which the Webmaster has a reasonable picture at any given time. If any member has a better picture to offer then please contact the webmaster.

Sailpast 2011 took place in April, in glorious sunshine. Thirty boats paid their respects to the Commodore. Mouse over for full size pictures

Annual Sailpast

Every year the Club salutes the Commodore to mark the start of the season. As many boats as possible take part and cruise in formation past the Commodore and Club, dipping the ensign in salute. This is a formal event with yachting whites being worn by all.
