Club Events

Illumination

Each year in August, Lower Sunbury run a weekend regatta to raise money for local organisations and charities such as the Sea Cadets. Land and waterborne events take place and the highlight of the weekend is an Illuminated Sail Past of MTYC boats. Those Members wishing to take part decorate their boats to their individual theme and proceed in formation past the hundreds of spectators along both river banks. Once the procession is finished the boats moor up alongside pre-positioned anchor boats and all are treated to a splendid fireworks display from Apps Court Farm. Finally, our boats make their way back to the Club for bowls of hot soup and camaraderie.

Dunkirk Veterans

Last year the Members of the Club decorated the Chertsey Lock with bunting to welcome our Military Veterans who are annually treated to a boat trip on some of the small wooden boats who undertook the Dunkirk rescues. A selection of songs of this era were played with around 60 people besides the Veterans themselves joining in.

Boat handling/training

Throughout the year various classes are arranged for Members, by qualified trainers, with regards to general boat handling, passage planning, VHF and ICC courses.
