Cruises and Cruising

MTYC organises regular cruises as a Club and also attends rallies organised by other boating groups, such as the annual RNLI Rally, which takes place at Kingston-upon-Thames and the ATYC rally at various locations.

In 2019 the Club ventured across the English Channel to France and Belgium and a future trip it is proposed to visit the Tall Ships

festival in Holland.

The August Bank Holiday weekend cruise is normally to tidal waters and visits Limehouse Marina or West India Dock. Next year we are going further into the Thames Estuary and the river Medway calling in at Rochester.

Early in the year, our annual Commodore's Cruise sometimes moors in Windsor where the Bank Holiday is spent frequenting the local pubs, shops and restaurants. Members generally socialise on the river bank and enjoy a splendid buffet provided by the Commodore.

Traditionally, the more hardy of our Members will get together in the week following Christmas and cruise, using one or two boats, and sail to Hampton Court, to take advantage of the temporary ice-skating rink and finishing back at the Club to enjoy leftover food and drink provided by the gathering. A 2019 New Years cruise to Westminster was very successful viewing the incredible London Eye

fireworks from the river and staying overnight at Imperial Wharf.

Sailpast

Each year Members get the chance to dress in their No1's (blazers and whites) and parade in their boats past the Clubhouse in tribute. The current Commodore takes the salute from the Club balcony with each boat lowering their ensigns, in turn, as they pass as a mark of respect for their Club. Afterwards a group picture is taken following which Members can relax and enjoy a splendid buffet and perhaps more than the odd glass or two of vino.
